                                    Transponder Keys, Key Cutting, Pin Code Reading  

Since approximately 1996 vehicle manufacturers have increased the security of their vehicles by the introduction of transponder vehicle keys. This involves the inclusion of a small transponder chip placed
in the ignition keys. When the keys are presented to the ignition switch the transponder communicates with an aerial around the ignition switch and identifies it as the correct key for
the vehicle. If the correct key is presented the vehicle immobiliser system
communicates with the vehicle ECU (electronic control unit) and allows the
vehicle engine to be started.

The inclusion of transponders into vehicle keys means that whenever a new
key is required the new keys require programming into the vehicle ECU memory.
Most vehicles require any additional key to be programmed using a diagnostic tester.
Some vehicles have a master key or keys that are required to enable programming to take place, when these master keys are lost or not passed on to the new owner the vehicle requires connecting to a diagnostic tester held only by the vehicle manufacturers dealer, until now!

BMW - Keys only available directly from the main dealer. These keys come ready to start the vehicle
Citreon - Keys can be cut and programmed onsite
Daewoo - Keys can be cut and programmed onsite
Fiat - Some keys can be cut and programmed onsite. Please call for availablity
Ford - Keys can be cut and programmed onsite even if all keys are lost
Honda - Keys can be cut onsite
Hyundai - Keys can be cut and programmed onsite
Isuzu - Keys can be cut and programmed onsite
Jaguar - Keys can be cut and programmed onsite

We also offer a service for Toyota owners who have lost all their keys. The main dealer will tell you that you need a new ecu and keys. This is not the case. We can programme a new master key directly into the ecu or immobiliser which will enable you to programme further keys. This is a specialist service that requires removing processors from ecu's and reading the information contained in them. We charge a flat rate of £200+vat for this service which compared to the main dealers price of approx £800 is a considerable saving.

Many vehicles nowadays require a minimum amount of keys programmed into the vehicle before it will start. For instance, the New Shape Ford Fiesta requires a minimum of 2 keys programmed to the system before the vehicle will start. Ford Transits pre 1997 require 3 keys before the light in the roof lining will stop flashing fault codes. Please feel free to contact us to find out if your car requires more than one key for it to start. Whilst programming new keys it is always best to erase all old keys as this heightens the level of security for your vehicle. Although the old keys will still be able to enter your vehicle they will not be able to start it, therefore only your valuables are at risk and these should normally be taken out of the vehicle prior to parking.

JS Auto Repairs carry a large selection of keys ready to cut for most vehicles. Normally these are cut onsite and programmed to your vehicle all in the same time frame. Certain vehicles require keys only available at main dealers. Mercedes Benz and BMW vehicles require you to order your key by chassis number at the main dealer. They then require programming to your vehicle. On certain vehicles like the Renault Kangoo the original keys can become quite troublesome. We can remove the troublesome copper chip from this key and replace it with a carbon one that will not fail you. The key does not even need to be working as we can read the transponder logic directly from the immobiliser unit and programme onto a new chip.

JS Auto Repairs also offer a Pin Code reading facility for locksmiths and garages. You send us the relevant immobiliser box or ecu and we will pull the pin code from it and inform you of it. There is a fixed price of £25+vat plus P&P for this service.
